How to get eggs in Pokémon Go

Eggs are available from Pokéstops and these are depicted on the app’s map as blue cubes. When you get close enough to a Pokéstop the cube becomes a circle and will become animated. When this happens, select it and the location of the Pokéstop will appear as a picture in the centre. Spin the picture until the frame turns from blue to pink. This typically releases Pokéballs, potions and revive tokens but it will occasionally release eggs.

Eggs may also be awarded to you when you level up. Unfortunately there is no guaranteeing which eggs will appear and your level plays little role in whether you get a 2km or a 10km egg.

Go to your Pokédex and select the egg tab on the top right-hand side to see how far you need to walk in order to hatch each one. These need to then be placed in an incubator.

When it comes to catching rare Pokemon in Pokemon Go, finding the species you’re looking for can be quite difficult. You can increase your odds by knowing where certain species generally spawn, but these spawns can be pretty random and difficult to pin down. However, there is a way you can up your chances of getting something rare: hatching eggs.

There are three types of eggs in the game: 2km, 5km and 10km. This translates to the amount of kilometers the player must walk in real life in order to hatch the egg; once you have walked the given distance, the egg will hatch and give you a random Pokemon. It has now become clear which Pokemon can be acquired from which type of egg.

In general, the lower kilometer eggs typically give players relatively common Pokemon like Bulbasaur, Pidgey and Zubat. When you’re walking around in service of hatching that 2km egg, don’t expect anything too crazy as a reward, although you can use these low-leveled Pokemon as a way of leveling up quickly.

Benefits of Hatching Eggs

1. Pokedex

You can hatch eggs to get Pokemon that are not available around you, so it is effective. You don’t have to catch wild Pokemon by traveling far.

2. IVs

Hatched Pokemon tend to have higher IV than the captured wild ones, except for a few Pokemon. In addition, you can expect high IV Bulbasaur, Charmander and Pikcachu only with the hatched ones. The IV of wild Pokemon ranges from0-100, and most of them have IV of 40-60. Therefore it is more likely to get high IV Pokemon by hatching.

3. Candy

It takes a large amount of candies to evolve some Pokemon. With Dragonite, you can capture Dratini to get candies. But when it comes to Snorlax, you only get one candy by capturing one. You can get more than 20 candies by hatching eggs!
